Girl Power Newsletter March 2026

We are excited to share our newsletter, bringing you stories, updates, and insights on what’s happening at Girl Power globally!

We’ve had an incredible run of activities, partnerships, and international recognition—here’s what we’ve been up to.

Workshop at the United Nations

On March 3, to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, Girl Power took part in the SPARK: The Power Within workshop hosted by the United Nations Development Programme in Copenhagen.

Our founder, Khalida Popal, joined a fireside conversation sharing her journey—from co-founding the Afghanistan Women’s National Football Team to leading Girl Power in Denmark. She highlighted how sport, education, and community play a vital role in shaping leadership and expanding opportunities for women and girls.

Aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” the discussion reinforced the importance of collective action and inclusive leadership in tackling ongoing gender inequalities worldwide.

At Girl Power, we remain committed to empowering women and girls through sport and community, driving change both locally and globally.

Women for Future (W4F) closing event

Girl Power was proudly represented at the final Women 4 Future event in Rome, Italy, where partners came together to celebrate the project’s impact and shared achievements. The initiative focused on empowering women through collaboration, leadership, and community-building across Europe.

The event marked an important moment to reflect on progress made and to strengthen connections for future action, continuing the mission of creating more inclusive opportunities for women and girls.

Football Festival with Lyngby School

Girl Power partnered with Lyngby School to host an engaging football festival, bringing together young people for an evening of sport, dance, and inclusive activities. The event created a fun and welcoming space where participants could connect, build confidence, and enjoy football in a supportive community setting.

Girl Power UK events

From 24–29 March, Girl Power UK ran a full week of activations across the UK:

Fair Game Conference (Manchester)
We were proud to take part in the Fair Game Conference at the Manchester National Football Museum, where we hosted a stall and presented our work in the UK.

This moment was especially meaningful as Girl Power is now officially registered as a Community Interest Organisation in the UK. It was a great opportunity to share our mission of empowering girls and women through football, leadership, and community.

Sport Coach+ Course (Sheffield)
Hosted by Girl Power UK in collaboration with FURD, the Sport Coach+ course is designed to develop inclusive, confident, and skilled coaches.

Our coaches acquired skills to work with young people who have faced adversity and provide safe and supportive spaces in sport.

Football Festival in Peterborough
We hosted a football festival with girls from the local community and shared a day of fun activities and football games.

This festival marked the launch of a series of festivals that Girl Power UK will be celebrating to encourage girls to participate in sports.

International Recognition
Our Football Festival was featured by Northamptonshire FA as part of their International Women’s Day celebrations, an honor that highlights the growing impact of our initiatives.
